The following are ideas and resources for SEPMs to use when scheduling an Hispanic Heritage Month Event-

Internet Searches:

The Smithsonian Latino Institute has a multitude of resources and ideas for events and activities; http://latino.si.edu/aboutus/index.htm

Use lap tops to set up virutal displays via internet connection to sites such as these:

Look up Hispanic/Latino Crafts online:

Many websites offer instructions and templates for various crafts (Peruvian pan pipes, Mexican Papel Picado),you can incorporate this into an event

Also, have someone give a cooking lesson ( how to make tamales, how to make arepas, how to make salsa...)

Find books, cds, posters with Hispanic Heritage Themes to post or give away as prizes for games at events.

Find Hispanic Heritage Crossword or Word search puzzles...and set up displays to correspond with the puzzles

Have your children enter essay contests like the following (any child of any background - grade 9-12 can enter):

Students and Teachers BOTH can win prize awards, so I encourage you to forward this information to your child's school or any school (with grades 9-12) where you may be doing outreach or for those of you involved in the .
